Trestleboard September 2010

Orlando Lodge No. 69 Trestleboard for September 2010

From the East: My Brothers, Here it is halfway through August the hottest month of the year and well past the half way point of the year. While one would think that the heat is so great that it would slow us down, not at Orlando 69, Travel, Degrees, Breakfast and fellowship are all on the schedule, with many many more items to come.

1st, the DDGM visit has been rescheduled to October 12. He was gracious to do this as our Lodge has adopted a Precinct and many of our Brothers will be working the polls.

2nd. Master Mason Degree at the end of August on the 31st. Hope you get this in time and hope to see you. We have 5 Fellowcrafts to raise; 4 of our own and one courtesy for South Seminole.

3: it is our turn to host the Masters and Wardens Breakfast.  The first Saturday in September is the 4th, and we will need the help of as many Brothers as possible to make this a great showing for our Lodge.

As I sit here and write this report, I want to thank all of you who have traveled with me to return the Orlando Gavel to its home. So far this year St Cloud has come twice and Pine Castle once. I am sure as the days get shorter and maybe the temps drop a bit, we will see others Com "borrow" our Gavel. Thank you for being ever ready to meet the challenge and return the Gavel home.

Finally, start making your plans for the Christmas Party. We have secured the Shrine Red Fez for a great night of fellowship with our spouses. See you in Lodge, On the Square, Greg

From the West: I was just reading an article in the Journal of the Masonic Society describing a trip made a group of Florida Masons to Havana Cuba. It was sponsored by Tropical Lodge in Lakeland and lead by our immediate Past Grand Master Dale Goehrig. The group traveled to Cuba with the blessing of the US Government for philanthropic purposes but also used the time to celebrate an anniversary of the Lodge in Havana. The author of the article was so impressed with the knowledge and depth of the Brothers and warmth and welcome they received from them. It just goes to show you how the strong cord of a moral obligation can cross cultures and political views. We too can learn from them as we look to our own work place and Lodge. Our is a place of peace and harmony. Watch in the coming days for the date of this years Past Master’s and Widows dinner. It will be another opportunity for to show brotherly love and affection to those who have served us well.On the Level, Rickey

From the South: With new master masons and degrees every month, Orlando 69 is growing by leaps and bounds. If it’s been a while since your last trip to lodge you may enjoy the new faces. Lodge is for everybody not just the regulars that show up every meeting. If you have any ideas that can make Orlando 69 better, come to a meeting. We’ve done a lot of traveling, met new brothers and had a good time with the gavel. There’s a lodge breakfast every month as well as masters and wardens. You’ll get out more than what you put in, it’s worth the effort! Good food and good friends are waiting to greet you.  By the Plumb, Craig

From the Scribe: To all interested parties, the Grand Lodge is still out of the “red books”. If you have not paid your dues for this year, please do so. Fraternally, Bob

Petitions: Mr. James Smalley, for the 3 degrees, Mr. Danny Anderson, II, Plural, Mr. Christy Smith, Dual.

Mr. Hector Colon, for the three degrees.

  • Some Biblical passages in Masonry
    masonic bible

The history of the evolution of our Craft supports my argument that many of the Biblical passages in the ritual actually dates from the time around the Enlightenment period to suggest in a subtle way the need to intellectually break free from the stranglehold the Church has on the mind of the time, thus freeing the minds and brought about the flourishing of science and technology that we see today. A paper by W.Bro. Ronald Paul Ng, Lodge of St. George No. 1152, United Grand Lodge of England.
