From the East

Freemasonry in Orlando is at full throttle with activities and degree work. We recently hosted the VP of Development for the Second Harvest Food Bank to hear the facts surrounding the tremendous needs in Central Florida. They were our Charity of the Quarter and we were happy to present him a check for $700. We turn our charitable attention to the orphans at the Edgewood Children’s Ranch for the Third Quarter. We conferred the Entered Apprentice degree on six new brothers, two of which are sons of current officers. There was a record making class of ten Fellowcrafts passed in August and we will raise them in early October. For the first time in a decade Orlando Lodge is going to perform its own Second Section of the Master Mason degree. The Craft spoke and said it was time to make this a reality again and a team is working to that goal. Please let me thank all those Brothers who have devoted the time to make this happen. The Lodge voted to move forward with planning next steps in making better use of our building. We have spoken to a Design Engineer and some architects to help us look to the future. Wow, this is indeed news of importance but not good enough… for more detail come on down and join us for dinner and fellowship.

From the West

My Brothers, since the last trestleboard was published yet another team of us had to repair the storage room. The shelfs fell down! I was proud of all the E.A.s that came and helped out, they have since been passed to Fellowcrafts and deserve our appreciation, I would really like to see more team work take place like this especially from our E.A.s and more especially on Stated Communications for two resons. Fellowship, getting to know our newest members, letting them start to get used to attenting on Lodge nights. 2th, something we have all done one time or another, help with the preparation & clean-up of the nights dinner. Speaking of dinner. Orlando Lodge 69's Past Masters night and dinner is scheduled for September 24th at 7pm. We will be serving Prime Rib and all the fixing with a singer to follow. $12 dollars for one, $20 for a couple. Please mark your calendar and see me for tickets.

From the South

My Brothers, as we near the end of this great year I look back at all of the good and also trying times we have had. We have a an enormous amount of interest and new members in the Fraternity. We have also had a few difficulties but with the participation of the craft we were able to over come them. We now enter the holiday season and still have petitions flowing in. Let's finish out this year on a high note and continue to shine the light of Freemasonry to the world.

From the Scribe

My Brothers:  Commitment, heavy word, serious meaning, heavy responsibility, something that can cause one to pause and think before making one.  All of us in our several obligations, have made some major commitments, to our Brothers, and to the Craft.  When you agree to take a position on the line, or the Craft elects you to an office, you must be in a position to make a commitment, and to stand by it. There is as great deal more to holding a chair than just attending the meetings, you should be in a position to attend functions in and around the district, generally showing support for our Lodge.  Everyone has cable tows, and making every event is generally difficult to do, that is something we all realize, but we do ask that you do the best that you can if you agree to accept a position on the line.  We encourage all to get on the line either now or at some point in the future, from there one can learn more about the inner workings of the lodge, and the interactions between the several lodges within the district.

Bob Johnson

  • Some Biblical passages in Masonry
    masonic bible

The history of the evolution of our Craft supports my argument that many of the Biblical passages in the ritual actually dates from the time around the Enlightenment period to suggest in a subtle way the need to intellectually break free from the stranglehold the Church has on the mind of the time, thus freeing the minds and brought about the flourishing of science and technology that we see today. A paper by W.Bro. Ronald Paul Ng, Lodge of St. George No. 1152, United Grand Lodge of England.
