Orlando Lodge No. 69, Trestleboard for April 2010
From the East: My Brothers, Time is really flying by…Here it is April and we are almost a third of the way through the year. Just as fast as the year has been flying by is as fast as we are moving down at the Lodge; Degrees; Program nights; visiting and much more. I hope every one of you were able to hear about the history of our great Lodge last month during the DDGM’s visit. RW Curtis Johnson did a fantastic presentation of the Brothers who shaped our great city as well as who shaped Orlando 69. Rumor has it that at the spring visit of the DDGM, he attempted to enter the Lodge not properly attired. With help from the Senior and Junior Wardens, he was properly attired in the Royal Stuart Kilt and escorted to the East for the night’s program. There may be evidence of this on the website. Finally, as we move forward, please plan on attending our next meeting and most especially our next program meeting on April 27th. Till then, see you at Lodge for a great meal and fellowship, on the Square, Greg
From the West: Brothers, have you ever heard anyone repeat the “Closing Charge”? We don’t get to hear it very often, last time was when the DDGM visited and W. Brother Steve Teal from Winter Garden Lodge shared it. In it we hear, “…forget not the duties you have heard so frequently inculcated and forcibly recommended in this Lodge.” It goes on to say “…By diligence in the duties… by liberal benevolences… fidelity in your friendships...discover the effects of this ancient institution.” and, “Finally Brethren, be ye of one mind, live in peace…” These are some great words to live by. If we could show these kinds of behaviors to the world then they would see the real Masonry. I hope to be able to live this in my life, especially as we have a chance to share this with over 20 new Masons currently in the process of the degrees in our Lodge. In order to teach these lesson to them we need you come and be a part of our team to instill these lessons to those who are standing at our door, knocking to learn our lessons. On the Level, Rickey From the South: Welcome to Orlando 69, that phrase never gets old. I seem to be using it a lot more recently, to new members that have recently been raised or Welcome Back to a lot of old members that we haven’t seen in a while. Good fellowship and great food go hand in hand at Orlando 69, and Fred and the kitchen crew have been serving up both. It’s great to see a lot of the chairs in the North being used because the South is full, but with all the newly initiated, and soon to be initiated brothers, volunteers will be needed for catechisms. If you have some time to help please see Jim who has done a great job co-coordinating education. By the Plumb, Craig From the Scribe: I do not know who said it first, but they were correct, time flies, and the older you get, the faster it flies. We have one quarter of the year in the bank so to speak. Where has the time gone, and better yet, what have we done with the time? There is more and more going on at the Lodge don’t miss out. The activities present an opportunity to meet with some of the new Brothers, and we are getting a very interesting variety of members, and it is a pleasure to chat with them and to sit in lodge with them, and they quite often present us with a different perspective on things, and that is a good thing, keeps us from getting set in our ways, and that is not bad. Come on out enjoy fellowship with them, and sit in lodge with them, they are to say the least, refreshing. Fraternally, Bob “the pen is mightier than the sword” Petitions: Michael Franklin, reinstatement.
